This site is intended for users interested in learning more about English phonetics. This site is organized into three areas: consonants, vowels and diphthongs. Each area contains an EPA chart for both sound areas. Clicking on a specific symbol within a chart will provide the following phonetic information:

  • Phonetic Description of the sound.
  • Recording of the sound spoken.
  • Recording of the sound spoken within a word.
  • Spectrograph Image of the sound and the word.
  • Animation of the oral cavity producing the sound.

We believe this site provides a useful and easy way to understand English phonetics.

In order to view some of the animations and sounds found in this web site you will need the following plugin. Real Audio is a free plugin available for both Windows and Macintosh systems. Get it by clicking on the button below.
